I had to do three photo shoots in total to achieve the photos i wanted,as you can see in some of the photos I'm trying to see what positions are best for the model to stand in to achieve a butterfly affect which was the essential lighting i needed to achieve for the glamour shoot.

YOUR LIFE YOUR TIMES SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FEB 201
Photo-shoot Skills I've learned: Firstly I've learned the t stance when taking a photo is important to balance and take a stable shot. A main section I've learned is how to position and set up lighting equipment in the studio depending on what type of shot and atmosphere i want to create. Ive learned lighting techniques, Broad Lighting:Where
the light source is side lit but occupies the side of the subjects face that is
closest
to the camera which creates
a lighter and less heavy feel to model.(metaphorically speaking)Narrow Lighting: Where
the light source is side lit but occupies the side of the subjects face that is
furthest
away from the camera.Creates
a darker and more sinister feel to subject, this is easy for creating a narrative image if you want to portray someone/something as evil.
Butterfly Lighting:Where
the light source is top lit and creates
a butterfly like shadow,underneath the subjects nose.Makes
a subject seem angelic or light, used regularly in magazine shoots for women. I used this lighting technique in my photo-shoot,(Set 1) to emphasise the glamour and flawlessness of my models face and skin, the lighting game a glowing effect. It works best for women with strong
cheek bones and good skin so you can define there beauty. This lighting is not typically used with male
subjects as they're more suited to lighting that will outline there muscles and shoulders.
The key light is placed high with
the fill light directly under it. Keeping the light close to the subject, watch
for the butterfly shaped shadow to form under the nose. I had to be careful not to place
their eyes in shadow as this disturbed the flawless look and made my subject look tired. During this process i learned how to sketch the set ups of the background lighting

Narrative voice in magazine articles
Narrative voice
and magazine articles:
Manner of address

EFFECT on reader

Example
|
|
1st person narrative single
|
Rarely used in newspapers, but used a lot
in female magazines. ‘I’
|
Personal, informal, relatable, subjective
form as it has lots of emotional content in it. It’s written in a persons
view and can also be highly descriptive allowing you to climb inside the
person’s thoughts. Its also perceived as a chatty voice with a large
expression of emotion.

I’ve never been a healthy eater; life
pulls me towards the doughnut isle. But recently when I’ve looked in the
mirror I’ve felt repulsed at what I see. Now every morning and night I’m
constantly addicted to checking my weight on the scales, am I obsessed with
the fear of weight gain? Or possibly it’s the fear of society rejecting me
for not having the idolized size zero body. Either way I think it’s an issue
all girls struggle with. Or am I alone in this?
|
1st person plural
|
The inclusive narrative voice, ’we’ Often
used at start of article to engage audience.
|
The inclusive narrative voice is used to
make the reader feel involved/part of in a community and empowered. Also
suggests that you have shared experiences, or that there part of an exclusive
club.
|
We girls are raised and bread expecting
to become real-life Barbie’s. Its everywhere, we can’t escape it! In the
media, society’s expectations even the toy Barbie is built in an unachievable
body form. Us girls are brainwashed into vain priorities since the day we
receive our first Malibu Barbie..
|
2nd person
|
‘you’ very rarely used, The direct
address. Often used at start of article to engage audience.
|
It’s reaching out directly to the reader,
it is used to engage the reader quickly. It’s quite a sharp, energetic and
possibly aggressive narrative voice. It’s quick and speeds up writing.
|
How long does it take you to get ready on
a morning? 10-15 minutes, but why should you bother when in modern society
you’ll never be accepted who you truly are. Conforming to ridiculous
expectations of perfection on a daily basis that you can never reach? Surely
this makes one want to become a hermit and retreat from the outside world on
a whole.
|
3rd person
|
Objective-describing through an object.
|
This is the opposite of 1st
person narration. It’s detached and gives an overview of the situation. Can
create a distancing effect that the news is an objective process, the writing
seems more accurate, it’s a considered objective view. Gives a formal and serious
feel to your writing. Definitely not emotional, generally quite a dry
informative style of writing.

Today in Camden a study is taking place
in the square to ask women about opinions on the current issue surrounding
airbrushing. The women have been highly responsive, reporting that (on
average) they want a change in the currently negative perspective of beauty
portrayed in the media, especially towards young children.

Generally
speaking Men’s magazines don’t have a first person narrative as it allows men
to talk and moan about feelings, which is not seen as an attractive concept in
a men’s magazine.
Brushes downloads(native watercolour animal brushes) CD Cover
I downloaded my bushes from brusheesy.com i had to save the brushes as a Zip file then re-click on it to open the brushes on photo to 'undo' the Zip. I experimented with all the brushes i downloaded,i downloaded two brush files that contained several brushes in each. i stuck to a watercolour based brushes to fit in with the native theme i wanted on my CD cover. I downloaded a smoke brushes and native animal brushes. I then changed the sizes of the brushes, one to create the large wolf central to the CD cover,i also layered different brushes over each other to create a wildlife compressed feel. I incorporated the smoke and the animals as one so it looked like the smoke was rising from the animals. I then added text and coloured text over the brushes to create the CD Cover. I did download text which can be seen on my final product both in InDesign and Photoshop.
Apertures and ISO control photos& Photoshop filters
I then used an F.stop size of F11 to gain a medium depth of field, this image would be more in focus than a smaller F.stop but not completely in full focus.
I then used an F.stop size of F29 to gain full focus and a maximum depth of field. The whole image should be in focus by using a large f.stop size.
I then experimented with ISO settings, these are the cells that react with light. The ISO effects the graininess or noise of pictures,it is used frequently by artist for a distorting effect. The higher the ISO the more noise the picture will have, I firstly used a ISO of 100,this is the slowest setting and should be used in good weather conditions (bright) as it is the slowest setting to react with light. The normal setting for an ISO is around 200. If in a dark place a much higher ISO will be needed,i used an exptreeme ISO and changed the settings to 3600 which is the highest and fastest setting. Im not sure if the photos were effective in displaying the grainy effect as the camera seemed to blur more than create noise. I continued to experiment and some of the photos have 'noise' but i was disappointed with the outcome.
The above appear more grainy, the picture also looks darker and less fresh, this is due to the extreme ISO setting of 3600.I think these two above were the best experimental outcomes of my ISO testing.
I then experimented on Photoshop using filter effects,this was very fun and added a unique creativity to my photos;
Firstly i experimented with the lense flare filter, adapting the size of the light flare and the intensity. I started of minimal and then experimented using a wider range of light streak expansion.I then edited the contrast, brightness and saturation of the image which added colour to the filter and highlighted and emboldened the background. I think this adds a life and intensity to the photo which it didn't previously have.
I then experimented with motion blur filter and the intensity levels of it,the faster the blur the less of the image that became clear. There were many types of blur i experimented with, smart blur, shape blur, surface blur.
I then experimented with the difference clouds filter, which changed the colours of my images like a heat signal camera would. It was an interesting filter to use but i thought it looked childish and the negative colours were very unnatural.
