Shutter speeds photography and evaluation

Above my first attempts at playing with light and slow shutter speeds, the camera only captures singular short lines of movement in my first attempt. This shows the shutter speed was to fast to capture any significant movement with the torch.

I then adjusted the shutter speed to a slower speed of 4 seconds, this allowed the camera to capture many light streaks created within the four seconds of movement. This showed me that i the slower the shutter speed the more movement the camera can pick up allowing the light created to become more interesting and intricate.
This therefore made me wonder if recognisable images could be created using light and coloured tourches. I decided to be creative and create intricate imagery with the torches to see if the camera could capture the movement of the torch.
1)An octopus 2)A Gameboy controller buttons (using different heights and coloured torches for a lighting effect) In a dark setting the camera almost reflects the light as the octopus shape has a large blue tinted glow surrounding it.

I then set the shutter speed to 30 seconds and waved multiple coloured torches around which created an overexposed effect. The picture looks very layered with the different widths of the light streaks and opacity of the light streaks. For example the orange streak is almost see-through wear as the green and blue light streaks are closer proximity to the camera making them more overexposed creating a bright white 'glow' effect.

Cross processing tutorial and filters

Using Auto Tone,Auto Contrast to add subtle effects and improve the quality of the image overall. These are basic tools to use but without them the photo would look badly lit and lack the necessary colour and tone for a usable image in media production.
Ive manually adjusted the brightness and contrast on photoshop to improve the overall quality of the photo to add highlights and shadows in the natural areas needed. It also makes the photo clearer and look a better pixilated quality.
Sharpening my my image for a more defined picture, using the unsharp mask with a radius of 2.2 pixels and 94% on the amount tool. Then i used the dodge tool to lighten up areas were the skylight peaks through the leaves at the top third of the photo. Then I've learned to use the burn tool to darken areas using a mid tone. This tool was easy to use and i found it very effective in improving my picture. I then moved the burn tool around the edges of the photo to add a vignette affect.
The finished product using all the above tools on my photo.
First attempt at changing the curves of a photo and using a cross process red technique. The curves on photoshop were very hard to control and the end effect i often didn't expect, sometimes the colours went into negative when i was experimenting, reducing the summery and outdoor effect of the photo. The red added a bolder more definitive colour to the photo which appears more concentrated than just using the cross processing on the photo. Personally i think it adds life to the photo as it makes the models cheeks blush and shirt subtly more refreshing.
Second attempt at changing the curves and using green, red and blue techniques. I gained a better understanding of the effects i was using and was able to more concisely adapt the photo to the way i wanted it. I focused more on the colours and getting them the right depth and saturation so the photo didn't look overly edited. I also used the bar for saturation and brightness to tweak the photo so it didn't look overly manipulated too.

Composition photos

Im using the line technique to lead the eye to the resting focus of the picture, this guides the onlooker to the main subject of the photo without a conscious effort.

Ive changed the positioning of the subject and using the rule of thirds, adding an individuality to the photo as the model is positioned stereotypically.
Using the rule of thirds and moving the model to the extreme right of the photo,I've also incorporated a shot from above, this adds superiority to the object the model is looking up to.
Using an downwards angle with a high eye line to emphasise importance and power; taking a shot from above the model appears inferor.
